Update: Police identify girl, 16, killed in Cortland home; murder charged

Authorities have identified the 16-year-old girl from Cortland found killed in her home on Friday as Amie Leland, according to multiple reports.

Michael S. Hammond II, 23, has been charged with murder.

Syracuse.com reports that he has pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree murder, three counts of first-degree burglary and five counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon (Reporter Jacob Pucci explains that one murder charge is for killing the victim, and the second is because it happened during a burglary.)

No bail has been set for Hammond, who is from Virgil.

According to WSYR, police say the victim suffered “stab wounds, blunt-force trauma, and lacerations.”

A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 16-year-old girl from Cortland, according to multiple reports published on Friday.

WSYR says that a 23-year-old man was arrested in Virgil in relation with the death of the Cortland High School student.

Police were called to a house on Lincoln Avenue in Cortland after receiving a call from an “unidentified person,” and a teenage victim was found dead inside, according to WXHC. WXHC called the crime a murder.

“Police have not identified the victim or released the identity of the suspect. They also have not shared how they may have known each other,” WXHC says.
