Cortland police report increase in burglaries

CORTLAND, N.Y. — The City of Cortland Police Department is advising residents to lock their doors and windows after seeing a spike in burglary complaints this month.

Since March 1, the department has received 10 burglary complaints, all of which may be related, the Cortland Police Department posted on its Facebook page Monday.

The burglaries occurred during the late evening and early morning hours, many of them in the northwest side of the city.

In each case, the burglar stole property just inside an unlocked door or window. Items that have been stolen include laptops, game systems, purses and cellphones.

The burglaries have occured on the following streets:

– Floral Avenue
– E. Garfield Street
– W. Main Street
– Clayton Avenue
– North Church Street
– Homer Avenue
– Lincoln Avenue
– Maple Avenue
– Arthur Avenue
