Cortland police investigating car break-ins at nursing homes

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland Police Department and the Cortland County Sheriff's Office are investigating larcenies from motor vehicles that occurred in parking lots of nursing homes early Wednesday morning.

The thefts occurred between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to the city police department.

In each instance, the suspect(s) smashed out windows to gain access to valuables that were left in view from outside the vehicle, the Cortland Police Department said.

Both law enforcement agencies are asking the public's help in solving the crimes to prevent future thefts. Anyone with information is asked to contact the city police department or the sheriff's office.

Law enforcement officials recommend people secure their valuables with them or secure them in the trunk or glove compartment.
