CORTLAND, N.Y. — The central New York region could be hit with a batch of severe thunderstorms early Tuesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, there is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms Tuesday, meaning any significant weather events would likely be short-lived and not widespread, though intense storms are possible at times, forecasters say.

If severe thunderstorms do occur, they are expected to impact the Cortland area between 5 and 9 p.m. The main impacts expected from the severe weather are tree damage, sporadic power outages, locally heavy rainfall and isolated large hail are possible.

Showers and storms should diminish Tuesday night after the warm front passes.

A hazardous weather outlook has not yet been issued for Cortland County.
