Tompkins sheriff's office searching for missing teen

A teenager and resident of the William George Agency for Children has been reported missing.

At about 5:30 p.m. Jan. 29, deputies from the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office responded to 380 Freeville Road in Dryden for a report that resident April L. Smith, 17, had gone missing. Staff members believe Smith voluntarily ran away from the facility at about 5 p.m. and might be heading to the Hunter, New York, area.

There were no updates as of 1:20 p.m. Friday, Lt. Daniel Donahue of the sheriff's office said.

The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to share any information related to Smith's whereabouts. Anyone with information can call 607-272-2444.
