Update: Authorities identify man killed in snowmobile accident in Homer

HOMER, N.Y. — A 45-year-old resident of Onondaga County has been identified as the victim in a fatal snowmobile accident in the town of Homer on Saturday.

At around 7 p.m., the Cortland County Sheriff's Office responded to the accident on Chapman Road, Snowmobile Trail Number S57.

The snowmobile was being driven by Franklin E. Mills, Jr., of Manlius, the sheriff's office said in a news release Monday.

Mills was traveling in a 2012 Polaris Pro-R snowmobile in a northerly direction when he lost control of the snowmobile, according to Sgt. Chad Burhans with the sheriff's office. He was pronounced dead at Cortland Regional Medical Center.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
