DRYDEN, N.Y. — The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office has charged a Dryden woman with assault after she allegedly shot her neighbor in the head with a BB gun.
Deputies responded to the area of 18 Bills Way in Dryden for a reported assault at about 5:45 p.m. Thursday. After interviewing the victim and witnesses, deputies determined that Tori Monroe, 37, of Dryden, shot her neighbor with a BB gun from a couple of feet away after an argument.
The situation escalated after the initial assault when two of Monroe's children reportedly brandished knives and threatened the same victim, the sheriff's office said.
Monroe was charged with third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Monroe's children, who are juveniles, were charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and were issued appearance tickets for the Tompkins County Family Court.
Monroe was arraigned in the Town of Dryden Court and released on her own recognizance.
The victim's injuries were non-life threatening, the sheriff's office said.
New York State Police also assisted in the investigation which is ongoing.
