Members of the Cortland Professional Firefighters Association broke a personal record Saturday by bringing in more than $6,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association as part of their annual "Fill the Boot" fundraiser.

The event took place during SUNY Cortland commencement weekend. Firefighters walked along Route 13/Tompkins Street on Saturday and collected donations for the MDA from drivers waiting in traffic.

On Thursday, the Cortland Fire Department presented a check in the amount of $6,315 to the MDA's Syracuse chapter.

"I was really pleased, especially with the weather, to see everybody show up," said Cortland firefighter Drew Hill.
