Mark Dill, 60, of Cranston, Rhode Island (City of Cortland Police Department)

CORTLAND, N.Y. - A Rhode Island man was sentenced in Cortland County Court Thursday morning in the killing of a Cortland man outside the Palm Gardens tavern in November 2015.

Judge Julie Campbell sentenced 60-year-old Mark Dill to 3-9 years in state prison, according to Cortland County Court officials.

Dill faced charges of first-degree manslaughter for fatally stabbing 40-year-old Terry Wormuth, of Cortland, on Nov. 29, 2015, in the parking lot of the Palm Gardens bar on Elm Street.

The stabbing happened following a heated argument in the early morning hours outside the bar, according to police records and witness statements. Dill tried to claim he was defending himself during the altercation.

Wormuth was born and raised in the Cortland area, graduating from Cortland High School in 1993, according to his obituary.
