Jail inmate accused of assaulting corrections officer

Narrative: An inmate who was being held on separate charges in the Cortland County Jail was arrested and charged by the Cortland County Sheriff's Office on Tues., July 11, after becoming disruptive in the facility and physically resisting corrections officers, the sheriff's office said. During the incident, which occurred in the early morning hours on July 9, two corrections officers sustained minor physical injuries, authorities said. The inmate, 30-year-old Joseph Miller, was arraigned in Cortland City Court and taken to jail on $2,500 cash bail.

Narrative: On Sunday, July 9, at around 2 a.m., officers from the Cortland County Sheriff's Office stopped a vehicle being operated by 25-year-old Randy Zajac for allegedly speeding on Route 90 in the town of Homer. Zajac was found to be intoxicated, authorities said. He was taken into custody, processed, and taken to Homer Town Court for arraignment. He was taken to jail on $750 cash bail.
