CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Cortland Fire Department made quick work of a vehicle fire outside an off-campus house on Lincoln Avenue Saturday night.

At around 9 p.m. Saturday, firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle on fire at 66 Lincoln Avenue. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle on fire, with the blaze extending to the side of the home, according to the Cortland Professional Firefighters Association.

Firefighters deployed a 2-inch attack line hose to suppress the fire while additional crews began to search the house for occupants. The fire was found to be confined to the vehicle and exterior of the house, which was occupied by four SUNY Cortland students.

The building was reoccupied by the students that same evening.

The Cortland Professional Firefighters Association credits firefighters' "aggressive attack, rapid response, and a fully staffed shift" as major factors in containing fire damage to the outside of the home.

The City of Cortland Fire Investigation Team was called to the scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire. It remains under investigation.
