Crews called to ruptured gas line in Cortland

Update 5:02 p.m. 

Crews were able to bring a ruptured gas line under control earlier this afternoon.

The pipe was leaking for about 15 minutes before firefighters and workers with NYSEG were able to plug the leak, according to Cortlandville Fire Chief Jared Gebel.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Emergency crews are responding to a report of a ruptured gas line in the city.

Firefighters were called shortly after 11:15 a.m. Tuesday to the Groton Avenue Plaza.

A strong odor of gas has been reported in the area, according to a dispatcher with the Cortland County 911 Center. No buildings have been evacuated.

The Cortlandville Fire Department is responding.
