Police: Homer man involved in hit-and-run accident was high on drugs

CORTLAND, N.Y. – A Cortland man was under the influence of drugs when he was involved in a hit-and-run accident on Sunday, according to the Homer Police Department.

Police say Kyle J. Dayton, 20, was involved in the accident in the area of North Main Street and Homer Avenue in the city of Cortland.

Dayton continued driving until he was located by police shortly after midnight on Sunday in the James Street municipal parking lot in the village of Homer, according to police.

Dayton was arraigned in Homer Town Court and charged with the following:

– Driving while ability impaired – drugs (Misdemeanor)
– Driving while intoxicated
– Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st (felony)
– Unlicensed operator (violation)

Dayton was taken to Cortland County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.

More charges are expected, police said.
