Update: Police identify man found dead near Riverside Plaza

Update 3:07 p.m. 

Police have identified the man who was found dead on the bank of the Tioughnioga River Wednesday evening.

Karl L. Spooner, 50, likely died of health-related issues, according to Lt. Rick Troyer with the Cortland Police Department.

Spooner has no known address, Troyer said.

CORTLAND, N.Y. – A man was found dead under the Clinton Avenue bridge Wednesday night, according to the Cortland Police Department.

The man, who is described as a white male and approximately 50 years old, was found dead at around 6 p.m. Wednesday near the McDonald's on Clinton Avenue, according to police.

Police are declining to release the man's identity or his cause of death, though foul play is not suspected.
