Tonight in Cortland County: Fireworks at Dwyer Park

PREBLE, N.Y. – With good weather in the forecast, the fireworks display at Dwyer Memorial Park will go on as scheduled tonight.

The fireworks will launch around 10 p.m. The Old Timers Band will provide live music starting at 6:30 p.m.

FYI–This is the first year that Cortland County has allowed licensed businesses to sell certain types of "non-dangerous" fireworks such as sparklers and fountains.

Last year, New York State legalized the sale of fireworks during certain times of the year, including from June 1 through July 5.

The legislation gives counties the option of whether or not they want to allow businesses to sell fireworks.

While Tompkins chose not to participate, Cortland County legislators passed a local law in May allowing for the purchase of fireworks through July 5.

But if you want to leave it to the professionals–as recommended by the Firemen's Association of New York State–Dwyer Park is probably the best place to see fireworks in the Cortland area.

Admission is free, but there is a fee for parking.
