Man faces manslaughter charge in fatal Cortland County crash

MARATHON, N.Y. – A Cortland County man faces vehicular manslaughter and DWI charges following a fatal car-motorcycle accident Saturday evening.

State Police in Homer responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a car and a motorcycle on Route 11 in Marathon at around 5:35 p.m. Saturday.

Police say Christopher E. Tanner, 42, of Marathon, was traveling northbound on Route 11 when he crossed the center of the roadway and entered the southbound lane, striking a motorcycle being driven by Shannon L. Nasoni, 49, of Endicott.

Nasoni was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police say Tanner was driving with a blood alcohol content of .21 percent.

Tanner faces the following charges:

– first-degree vehicular manslaughter
– aggravated driving while intoxicated
– failure to keep right

Tanner was arraigned in Marathon Town Court and taken to Cortland County Jail without bail.

State police were assisted by the Marathon and Virgil fire departments, Marathon Ambulance, and the New York State Department of Transportation.
