Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Cortland County

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland County is under a severe thunderstorm warning Tuesday afternoon.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Broome, Cortland, Tioga and Tompkins counties until 1:15 p.m.

The severe thunderstorm was located near Ithaca at about 12:40 p.m. It is expected to reach southern Cortland County at around 1:15 p.m.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton says to expect winds gusts up to 60 miles per hour, with storms causing damage to roofs, siding and trees.

Heavy rainfall could also lead to poor drainage and urban flooding in some areas.

The storms have rainfall rates of 1 inch per hour, according to the National Weather Service.
