Cortland man arrested after allegedly striking son with van

CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y. – A Cortland man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly struck his son with his van following an argument.

Shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday, state police responded to a report of two people fighting on Blodgett Mills Road in the town of Cortlandville.

Police say David W. Sanford, 43, and his 16-year-old son had been involved in a physical dispute. Sanford struck his son with his van as he was driving away, according to police.

The 16-year-old was transported by an ambulance to Cortland Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for back pain and dizziness.

Sanford has been charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

He was arraigned in Cortlandville Town Court and released after making $750 cash bail, police said.
