CORTLAND, N.Y. – Want to try your hand at filmmaking? Now is the time.

The Cultural Council is partnering with CNY Living History Center and Cortland Free Library to sponsor this inaugural juried film festival. Thanks in part to a grant from CNY Arts and NYSCA, we are able to collaborate to bring a new type of art to our community.

We encourage the youth of Cortland to create a short film of less than 5 minutes. Youth entries are free. This category is open to filmmakers under the age of 18. Gift certificates and product awards will be given to top winners of this category.

Our Adult category is open to anyone; youth may also submit. Films must be less than 12 minutes long. The submission fee for this group is $30, or $24 if you are a member of the CCCC or CNYLHC. These entries are eligible for cash prizes, which include a $250 for first place, $100 for second place, and $50 for third place.

Opening weekend of the film festival will be Friday, November 6th at 7 p.m., and Saturday, November 7th at 1 p.m. A selection of the top films will be shown during the Opening Weekend, at the Theater at CNY Living History Center, located at 4386 Rt. 11, Cortland, NY.

All films will be shown – at the discretion of the panel – on weekends to follow. A list of films and show times will be available in October. Film should be submitted on DVD. DVD's must be compatible with standard consumer DVD players. DVD’s should be lab3led with a permanent marker, name and film title.

These can be mailed to CCCC, PO Box 5133, Cortland, NY 13045. Get those cameras rolling; deadline is October 16, 2015. Find the application here.
