Police: Cortland man found with pot after driving 109 mph on Interstate

CORTLAND, N.Y. – A Cortland man was arrested early Monday morning after a state trooper found 30 grams of marijuana in his car, state police announced Friday.

At around 4:15 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on I-81 northbound in Cortland after a driver was clocked for speeding at 109 mph in a 65 mph zone.

During the stop, a trooper detected an odor of marijuana inside the vehicle. Police then conducted a search of the vehicle and found about 30 grams of marijuana.

Soloumane Magane, 23, of Cortland, was arrested and charged with fifth degree criminal possession of marijuana and reckless driving, both misdemeanors.

Magane was arraigned in Cortland Town Court and taken to Cortland County Jail on $100 cash bail.

He's scheduled to appear in court next month.
