On August 29, corrections officers discovered contraband among the personal items of Kyle Dayton, 21, of Cortland, during a routine inspection at the facility, according to Lt. Todd Caufield with the sheriff's department.

Investigators learned that Betty Toolan, 18, of Cortland, had visited Dayton on August 29 during a scheduled visit.

During the visit, Toolan brought contraband into the facility for Dayton, who was found with it a short time later, Caufield said.

Toolan was arrested for promoting prison contraband, a misdemeanor. Dayton, who was taken into custody back in June, was arrested on the same charge.

Caufield only referred to the contraband as an "undisclosed item."

He said the facility was not compromised during the investigation.
