Results: Cortland lawmaker loses primary election

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Four out of five lawmakers in Cortland County were able to hold on to their respective party nominations following Thursday's primary election.

In the city's third ward, a longtime Democratic lawmaker, Ken Dye, was upset by Gary Thomas, a former county legislator, in a 61-20 vote.

In the second ward, Kathryn Silliman survived a challenge from local businessman Thomas Terilliger. Silliman won by less than 10 votes.

Seventh ward alderperson Linda Ferguson defeated challenger Kristen Dye, taking 73 percent of the vote.

At the county level, two legislators survived challenges in Thursday's primary.

Amy Cobb, who represents the county's second district, defeated Derek Reynolds, a firefighter with the city of Cortland.

Joseph Steinhoff, a Republican who represents the county's 12th district, survived a challenge from Lisa Miller by a 75-39 vote.
