CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland County Family YMCA announces that it has appointed David Hamilton to serve as its CEO/Executive Director effective Nov. 2, 2015.

David is passionate about the mission of the YMCA. He is excited about the opportunity to serve the Cortland community and to make a different in the lives of all served by the Cortland YMCA.

Since 2011, David has served as executive director at the Clifton Springs Area YMCA in New York, where he directs a staff of one full-time child care director and 45 part-time and seasonal employees. David nearly doubled the operating budget in four years while transforming an annual operating deficit to a surplus. He increased facility membership from less than 50 to nearly 300 members. Under his leadership the Y was designated a HEPA (Healthy Eating and Physical Activity) Champion YMCA by Y-USA, a distinction held by only 17 other Ys in the U.S. David implemented a computer network, website, social networking, and Daxko Operations to improve membership and program management.

David held various positions at the Auburn YMCA-WEIU in New York from 2007 through 2011, where he originated the Swim Free program, which provides all 7-year-olds in the community the opportunity to receive free swim lessons at the YMCA, a program that the Cortland County Family YMCA recently began offering.

He is a native of Homer, N.Y., a graduate of Homer High School, and earned a bachelor of science degree in recreation management from SUNY Cortland. David and his wife Jean will be relocating to the Cortland area.

David was a chosen from a strong pool of applicants in a nationwide search conducted with assistance from Y-USA.
