CORTLAND, N.Y. – Several upcoming forums will give residents of Cortland County a closer look at candidates running in the November election.

Three candidates for Cortland County sheriff– Undersheriff Herb Barnhart, former state trooper Rich Berry and Village of Homer Police Chief Mark Helms– will debate on Sat., Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. - noon.
Two forums will also be held from 10 a.m. - noon on Sat., Oct. 24, among candidates running for three contested county legislative seats and two city council seats. Following that, a forum will be held between Cortland Mayor Brian Tobin and Myshell Titus, who is running against Tobin as an independent candidate.
All forums will be held at 19 Church Street.
Ash for trash forum planned
A forum on the economic and health impacts or importing incinerator ash will be held in the second floor auditorium of the Cortland County Office Building on Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 7 - 8:45 p.m. Cortland County legislators have been debating a potential "ash for trash" deal with Onondaga County.
Homer businessman Victor Siegle will speak about the economic impacts of the deal. County legislator John Troy had agreed to speak on the panel before backing out, citing a lack of available information.
The forum will be moderated by Jane Snell, dean of professional studies at SUNY Cortland.
