Helicopter called after report of a "long fall" in DeRuyter

DERUYTER, N.Y. – One person is being airlifted to a regional hospital after a long fall from a barn roof near the Cortland County line, according to emergency officials.

Crews were called to 4613 Union Valley Road in the Madison County town of DeRuyter at around 1 p.m. Thursday for a report of a long fall, according to Scott Roman, Cortland County Director of Emergency Response.

The person is being flown by helicopter, though it's unclear where the person will be taken, Roman said.

The incident is being handled by Smith Ambulance and the Cincinnatus Fire Department, he said.
