1 – Authorities investigate fatal Cortland County crash

1 dead in Route 13 crash in Virgil – One person was killed and another was hospitalized following a head-on collision in the town of Virgil early Friday evening. The names of the victims have not been released.

2 – Explainer: Cortland County's proposed "ash for trash" deal with Onondaga County

Understanding Cortland County’s ash for trash deal—and why it’s stalled – The ash for trash proposal would have Cortland County importing 90,000 tons of ash each year from Onondaga County. In exchange, about 35,000 tons of trash from Cortland County would be transported to an incinerator at the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA), which manages Onondaga County’s waste and incinerator.

3 – A Cortland man is charged with attempted rape of a minor

Police: Cortland man tried to rape 16-year-old girl – A Cortland man faces charges of attempted rape and luring a child after police say he brought a 16-year-old girl to the basement of a residence with the promise of a radio show appearance.

4 – A sheriff's candidates forum is canceled after two candidates drop out

Cortland County sheriff's candidates forum canceled – The Cortland County League of Women Voters, which organized the event, learned on Monday that a second candidate would be unavailable for the forum, according to league president Alison King.

5 – A Cortland man faces up to 8 years in prison for making meth

Cortland man pleads guilty to meth possession – Casey L. Chorley, 25, and three others were arrested April 8 after New York State Police conducted a raid at home on Conable Avenue in the town of Cortlandville. Cops had received a complaint about methamphetamine being made at the home.

6 – Students march through Cortland streets

SUNY Cortland students march against racial injustice – A group of about 50 SUNY Cortland students marched on the streets of Cortland Monday night in what was largely a show of protest against police killings of unarmed minorities.

7 – Two arrested at Walmart

Sheriff: Pair who stole from Cortland Walmart were wanted by police – Two people who were wanted on warrants from outside law enforcement agencies were arrested at the Cortlandville Walmart Tuesday, according to the Cortland County Sheriff's Department.

 

8 – Tense situation diffused at Wells College

Update: Dangerous and armed father headed to Wells College arrested – Wells College in Aurora was closed for the day after receiving reports that an armed and dangerous man was on the way to the college.

9 – Date set for Halloween Parade

Cortland Halloween Parade set for Oct. 29 – The October 29 parade starts at 6:15pm on Main Street in Cortland and ends at the Downtown Cortland Repertory Theatre for final judging and costume contest awards.

10 – Students to perform Sixties rock musical

SUNY Cortland brings 1960s rock musical "Hair" to the stage – SUNY Cortland’s Performing Arts Department soon will bring the hit 1960s rock musical “Hair” to the stage for six performances starting Friday, Oct. 30.
