Emergency crews responded to a head-on collision on Route 13 near the Elm Tree Golf Course at around 5:50 p.m. Friday. Each vehicle was occupied only by the drivers.
Amara Potts, 18, of Homer, was traveling north on Route 13 in a 2006 Hyundai Sonata when her vehicle crossed the center line into the oncoming lane, colliding with Steven J. Barrett, 42, of Berkshire, N.Y, who was driving a 2004 Buick LaSabre, according to Lt. Rob Derksen with the sheriff's department.
Barrett was pronounced dead at the scene. Potts was transported by ambulance to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, P.A., with severe injuries, but they are not believed to be life-threatening, Derksen said.
The reason for Potts' vehicle crossing the center line is still under investigation, Derksen said. It's not clear if charges will be filed in the accident.
The Cortlandville, Virgil, and McLean fire departments assisted at the scene, along with TLC Ambulance.
