CORTLAND, N.Y. – The 2016 United Way campaign is well underway in Cortland County with its 29th fundraising campaign under the leadership of Executive Director Cindy Eberhart.

After thoughtful deliberation, Eberhart has decided to make this her final campaign and retire from the United Way at the end of this year. Eberhart joined the United Way Board of Director’s in 1985, and took the Executive Director position in July of 1987. Over her tenure she has worked with thousands of volunteers to raise more than $16,500,000 for this community.

“I have enjoyed working with so many wonderful volunteers and donors,” Eberhart said. “It really is inspiring to see how many people are dedicated to helping people in their community.” She adds that it’s also been an honor to work alongside the human service programs that are doing so much positive work in Cortland County. “The programs we fund are helping people every single day to improve their lives.”

A search committee has been formed to find Eberhart’s replacement. The Board of Directors and staff are committed to a smooth transition and look forward to working together to ensure that the organization continues to expand its community work under new leadership.

United Way Board President Kristina Lambright says, “We are so grateful to have had such a dedicated leader for so many years and wish her much happiness in this new chapter of her life. She has built an organization that will be the foundation of an exciting future.”

Eberhart will work with campaign co-chairs, Jeremy Vitale and Donna Collins, volunteers and staff over the next two months to ensure a successful campaign. Please contact Board President, Kristina Lambright, at [email protected] with any questions.
