Homer fire investigated as possible arson

HOMER, N.Y. – Investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that engulfed an unoccupied, double wide trailer in the town of Homer Saturday.

At around 6:21 p.m. Saturday, firefighters were called to a report of fully involved structure fire at a double wide trailer at 7030 Cold Brook Road, according to Homer Deputy Fire Chief Charles Ford.

The trailer was unoccupied and had recently been installed by the owner, Ford said.

The trailer was deemed a total loss.

The fire is believed to be suspicious in nature, according to Ford. New York State fire investigators are working to determine a possible cause.

Fire departments from Homer, Preble, Cortlandville and Spafford all responded to the scene. The city of Cortland Fire Department and McGraw Fire Department provided mutual aid.
