Police responded at 4:33 p.m. to the 30 block of North Street when an employee at a business reported seeing a white powdery substance in a bathroom after a male exited the facility.

When police arrived at the scene, they found two men and a woman in the parking lot of the business, the Village of Dryden Police Department said in a news release.

Alexander J. Hale, 20, of Moravia, allegedly fled from police, discarding a jacket and two brown bags. He was caught with the help of a nearby member of the Dryden Fire Department.

Officials said there was a warrant for Hale's arrest in Cortland County for violating probation in Cortland County and wanted by the Cayuga County Sheriff's Department on a burglary charge.

For Saturday's incident, he was charged with misdemeanors for resisting arrest and second degree obstructing governmental administration, as well as a violation for unlawful possession of marijuana.

Mackenzie M. Trevits, 24, of Dryden was also charged at the scene with a misdemeanor for seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance.

Police said they found Suboxone in Trevits' possession, which she did not have a prescription for. Suboxone is used to treat opiate addiction.

Police said Trevits told them the trio had 5 grams of heroin at the beginning of the day and had used two of those grams.

Police were unable to find the remaining three grams and requested the assistance of a drug dog, but none were available in Tompkins or Cortland counties.

Trevits was issued an appearance ticket for the Dryden Town Court.

Hale was also issued an appearance ticket and transferred into the custody of the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office.

Officers from the New York State Police, Tompkins County Sheriff's Office, Groton Police and Tompkins Cortland Community College assisted at the scene.
