Cortland man raped woman while she was intoxicated, police say

CORTLAND, N.Y. – A Cortland man was arrested over the weekend in connection with a rape that was reported in July, according to the city of Cortland Police Department.

At approximately 2 a.m. Saturday, police arrested Clajon Lawson, 23, of 26 South Avenue, on one count of first degree rape, a felony.

On July 8, police say Lawson had sexual intercourse with a 20-year-old woman who was intoxicated and unable to give consent.

Police were able to make the arrest through DNA testing as part of their investigation, according to Lt. Richard Troyer with the police department.

Lawson was arraigned in Cortland City Court and sent to county jail on $100,000 bail or $200,000 bond. He is due back in court later today.
