Freeville man damaged state troopers' car, police say

DRYDEN, N.Y – State troopers took a Freeville man into custody Thursday after he allegedly damaged the front windshield of a state police vehicle.

James R. Spaulding, 37, of Freeville, had been in a physical dispute with his girlfriend at their home on Lake Country Avenue in the town of Dryden when he damaged a door and refused to leave, according to police.

After being arrested and placed in a patrol vehicle, Spaulding kicked and damaged the front windshield and dashboard, police said.

Spaulding was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, and second-degree harassment, a violation.

He was arraigned in Dryden Town Court and taken to Tompkins County jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail or $2,500 property bond.

His next scheduled court appearance is Dec. 9.
