Esther E. Bidwell, 57, of Sherman Road, was arrested Monday morning and charged with third-degree grand larceny and first-degree falsifying business records, both felonies.
While working as a secretary for DLH Properties, Bidwell wrote checks to herself that totaled more than $23,000, according to Lt. Richard Troyer with the Cortland Police Department.
Bidwell began writing checks to herself in 2012 and continued through this year, Troyer said.
Bidwell was arraigned in Cortland City Court and released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to reappear in court Jan. 20.
