Shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday, Cortlandville firefighters were dispatched to a working structure fire across the street from its main station at 999 State Route 13.

The single-family residence had been vacant for several years. After assessing the blaze, firefighters decided to allow the fire to burn out in the interest of "firefighter and public safety," the Cortlandville Fire Department said in a Facebook post.

Cortlandville firefighters remained on scene until around 5 p.m.

The Dryden and Homer fire departments assisted on scene while the McLean Fire and Rescue and McGraw fire departments stood by in case of other emergencies.
