Police said the alleged shooter, Christopher L. Wright, 25, fled the scene and headed to New York City. He was taken into custody later the same day on the NYS Thruway. He's being held without bail.

Court documents that include a detailed statement from a witness to the shooting provided the following narrative (Note: Wright is referred to as Corey in the witness' statement.):

A woman who'd been outside on her cellphone was called back into her apartment by a friend after two men began arguing -- Wright and a man named Marlo. A third man at the scene was trying to diffuse the situation.

The witness said, "They alternated between fighting and hugging each other. It was just a bunch of pointless arguing."

As the witness persuaded Wright to leave the apartment, she said he and Marlo began arguing about a phone: Marlo would not give Wright his phone back, the witness said, because Marlo was drunk.

Wright eventually left the apartment with his phone around 5:30 a.m. and Marlo went to sleep in a guest bedroom.

While the witness was sweeping up glass, she said she found a gold bracelet she did not recognize and had a friend call Wright to tell him to get the bracelet from the apartment if it belonged to him.

Around 5:45 a.m. or so, Wright appeared at the apartment door.

The witness said, " I looked out the peephole and saw that it was Corey. I opened the door and as soon as I opened the door, there was a gun in my face...Corey held the gun in his right hand and he held it straight out."

She said she moved out of the way and began shouting at Wright, who went directly to the guestroom where Marlo was sleeping.

Before firing two rounds at Marlo, Wright said, "Give me my shit."

The witness called 911 and tried to stop the bleeding with bed sheets before she and her friends, fearing Wright would come back to the apartment, left the area.

An Ithaca City court clerk said Wright is scheduled to reappear in court later this week.
