Fox, who was employed as a paramedic with Bangs Ambulance in Ithaca, lives in Trumansburg with his Rosa and their 11-month-old daughter, Frances. Fox also serves as a volunteer firefighter and paramedic with the Trumansburg Fire Department. He was also actively involved in the bunker program at the Cortland Fire Department, according to Cortland Deputy Fire Chief Wayne Friedman.

"We are excited to bring Will on board as a career firefighter," Friedman said. "He has proven himself ... and committed himself fully to becoming a firefighter with the Cortland Fire Department. It's a natural fit."

Fox will spend two weeks with the Municipal Training Officer to review department policies and become familiar with city streets, Friedman said.

Retired firefighter Eric Sutton was also recognized Tuesday for his years of service to the department. Sutton had been a member of the Cortland Fire Department for more than 20 years.
