At around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, police received a complaint of suspected meth activity at an apartment at 86 Clinton Avenue.

Officers on scene noticed a "chemical smell," according to Lt. Richard Troyer with the Cortland Police Department, and the New York State Police hazmat team was called in to process the area. Police were at the house through late Sunday afternoon, Lt. Troyer said.

Robert W. Youngblood, 50, and Alice A. Youngblood, 50, were charged with one count of third-degree manufacturing of methamphetamine, a class D felony.

Additional charges are pending, Lt. Troyer said. The pair was released on their own recognizance and is set to reappear in court March 4.

The City of Cortland Fire Department also provided assistance at the scene.
