Updated 10:27 p.m. — One person was airlifted to a Syracuse hospital following a crash on Route 38 Friday afternoon.

Shortly after 4 p.m., the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office responded to the 800 block of Peru Road for a personal injury motor vehicle accident.
An investigation determined that a vehicle traveling northbound struck a disabled vehicle along the east side of the roadway, according to the sheriff's office. The disabled vehicle had ran out of fuel and did have their hazard lights activated, according to witnesses.
The driver of the disabled vehicle was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center for undetermined injuries. Two passengers in that vehicle were transported by ambulance to Cortland Regional Medical Center for minor injuries, the sheriff's office said.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the disabled vehicle was not transported, authorities said. The driver was issued a citation at the scene for failing to exercise due care when approaching a hazard vehicle, a violation.
The sheriff's office declined to release the names of those involved in the crash, citing an ongoing investigation.
Peru Road/Route 38 was shut down for about 1 and a half hours following the crash.

GROTON, N.Y. — A helicopter is being called to a two-vehicle head-on accident at the 800 block of Peru Road Friday afternoon in the town of Groton, an official said.
The crash was reported at 4:01 p.m. and at least three ambulances were also called to the scene, a Tompkins County 911 dispatcher said.
