Fire rips through Onondaga County lumber yard

JAMESVILLE, N.Y. – Five fire departments in Cortland County were called to assist firefighters in Onondaga County with a massive fire at a lumber yard Saturday evening.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m., firefighters were called to the B&B Lumber Pallet Company in the town of Dewitt for a structure fire.

About 30 different fire departments from four different counties – including Onondaga, Cortland, Madison, and Oswego – responded to the blaze.

Fire departments from Preble, Truxton and Cuyler provided mutual aid to the Jamesville Fire Department. The Homer and Preble fire departments each sent one tanker to the Truxton Fire Station on standby

Crews worked until 5:30 a.m. Sunday. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is unclear, though no foul play is suspected.
