Wind advisory issued in Cortland County; 50 mph wind gusts possible

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for six counties in central New York.

The advisory, which began at 2 p.m. Monday and will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday, includes Oneida, Schuyler, Chemung, Tompkins, Cortland and Tioga counties.

Winds will increase Monday afternoon, though the strongest winds will occur late Monday afternoon through the evening hours, forecasters said.

Isolated tree damage and power outages are possible.

Rain showers accompanied by snow showers are likely Monday evening. Little or no snow accumulation is expected. Wind gusts up to 55 mph are possible Monday night.
