ITHACA, N.Y. – Police said a man is in custody after officers found guns and drugs during a traffic stop in Ithaca Monday evening.

A tan vehicle was pulled over at 5:03 p.m. near the intersection of West Seneca and North Albany streets. The driver, Corbin D. Whyte, had a warrant out for his arrest and officers said they smelled marijuana in his vehicle.
They also said a handgun was"immediately noticed" in the driver's side door pocket of the vehicle.
Whyte, 31, of Ithaca, is facing felony charges for two counts to second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police said additional charges are pending.

The following is a news release about the incident by Ithaca police:
On 03/28/16 at approximately 5:03 pm at the intersection of W Seneca and Albany St. Officers stopped a vehicle being driven by Corbin Whyte. Whyte was known by Officers of this agency to have an active arrest warrant at the time of his stop. Whyte’s vehicle had a strong odor of burned marijuana coming from inside, and he was placed under arrest.
Officers began a search of Whyte’s vehicle and immediately noticed what appeared to be a handgun in the driver’s side door pocket. The vehicle was then impounded, and a search warrant was applied for.
Once the search warrant was obtained the vehicle was later searched at the Ithaca Police Department. The results of the search are as follows:
- 7 Guns in total: one fully loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, one fully loaded .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun, 2 revolvers, one pistol grip 12 gauge shotgun, one .223 caliber AR15 assault rifle with 2 fully loaded 30 round magazines and one fully loaded 10 round magazine, and one suppressed .22 caliber assault rifle.
- Hundreds of rounds of various handgun, rifle, and shotgun ammunition.
- Numerous pill bottles filled with various scheduled controlled substances.
- Over $1000 in cash.
Whyte was arraigned in Ithaca City Court by the honorable Judge Wallace and was remanded without bail to the Tompkins County Jail.
