Man accused of choking wife at Hope Lake Lodge

VIRGIL, N.Y. — A couples retreat between a husband and wife at Hope Lake Lodge in Virgil turned violent Sunday, according to the Cortland County Sheriff's Office.

At around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, officers from the Cortland County Sheriff's Office responded to 2177 Clute Road for a report of a domestic dispute between a husband and wife.

Evander D. Gaskin, 26, allegedly grabbed his wife by the face, held her on the bed and began choking her, the sheriff's office said. The couple's three-year-old stepson was present at the time.

Gaskin was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree harassment, unlawful imprisonment and criminal obstruction of breathing.

Gaskin was arraigned in Virgil Town Court and released on his own recognizance to return to Virgil Town Court on May 17.
