DRYDEN, N.Y. — A Dutchess County man has been charged with gang assault in connection with a reported incident that occurred last week at a residence hall at Tompkins Cortland Community College, according to a statement from the college.

On April 20, TC3 Campus Police received a report of an assault that occurred against a student in a residence hall.
An investigation determined that a group of five to six individuals assaulted the student in the victim's apartment and stole several items, police said.
"They knew each other in some capacity," an official said. But he was unable to confirm why the incident happened or to what degree the people knew each other.
The victim was hospitalized with injuries that are not life threatening, and police said Wednesday that he's been released.
On Monday, police arrested Lemain A. Jackson, 20, of Hopewell Junction, in connection with the assault. Jackson was formerly a student at the college but has since been dismissed, an official said.
Jackson was charged with first-degree burglary, a class B felony, and second-degree gang assault, a class C felony. A person is charged with gang assault when he or she is part of a group of people who attack someone.
He was arraigned in Dryden Town Court and taken to the Tompkins County Jail on $7,500 bail or $15,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected, police said. Officials are not stating whether they believe the other people are students.
