I-81 road work in Cortland County begins today

CORTLAND, N.Y. — A project to resurface a 17-mile stretch of Interstate 81 in Cortland County began today and will continue for much of the construction season.

Traffic will be controlled using daily and overnight lane closures, though one lane in each direction will be available at all times, according to the New York State Department of Transportation.

Lane closures may extend to as much as 4 miles and will be left in place overnight. All lanes will be open by noon on Fridays, though work may occur on Saturday mornings.

The road work on I-81 covers South Hill Road in Virgil to the Onondaga County line.

Work will be suspended on Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day weekends.
