Moe's Southwest Grill eyes Cortland location

CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y. — Representatives from Moe's Southwest Grill have presented plans for a restaurant on Route 13 in Cortlandville.

Moe's Southwest Grill plans to open a location at 873 Route 13, a space previously occupied by Ponderosa Steakhouse before the restaurant closed in September.

Roger Wagner, operating partner for Moe's, appeared at the Cortlandville Zoning Board of Appeals Tuesday evening to request a variance for signage at the property.

The project came before the Cortlandville Planning Board at its May meeting, but planning board members expressed concerns that the proposed design would not fit in with the existing character of the area, and the project was tabled. After making some adjustments, the project is slated for final site plan approval at the planning board's June meeting.

Wagner said the restaurant will blend in well with the plethora of already well-established restaurants on Route 13.

"We think there's a void with fast-casual [dining] in this area, and we are happy we get to fill that void," Wagner said.

The restaurant would be located just blocks away from Garcia's Mexican Restaurant. Wagner said they hope to open the restaurant by late September after completing renovations to the existing building.

Moe's has more than 600 locations worldwide, including one in Ithaca, which opened in 2008, and several in the Syracuse area.
