Police believe they've found body of missing Berkshire man, Ithaca coin shop owner

BERKSHIRE, N.Y. – The Tioga County Sheriff’s office has said they have likely found missing Berkshire man Harold L. Benjamin Jr. deceased in a field.

They released the following statement Wednesday:

The Tioga County Sheriff’s office in conjunction with the Berkshire Fire Department and the Tioga County Search and Rescue Team have suspended a search for Harold L. Benjamin Jr., a 58-year old Town of Berkshire man who was reported missing on Monday, June 27th.

The search which was to begin earlier this morning was suspended when Sheriff’s personnel confirmed the recovery of a deceased adult male in a field off of Turkey Hill Road, in the Town of Berkshire.

Investigators believe that the body discovered may be that of the missing Berkshire man. A positive identification and cause of death is not known at this time, pending an autopsy and further investigation by Sheriff’s Personnel.
