Tioga police confirm ID of Berkshire man found dead

ITHACA, N.Y. — Police have confirmed that an Ithaca coin shop owner who has been missing since Monday, was found deceased on Wednesday in Berkshire.

Harold L. Benjamin, 58, who owned Harold's Coin Shop in Dewitt Mall, went missing early Monday morning. His family indicated that he did not take his wallet or vehicle with him, and phone calls went straight to voicemail.

A search and rescue scheduled for Wednesday morning was suspended after Tioga County officials said they found a deceased man they believed to be Benjamin in a field off of Turkey Hill Road.

The Tioga County Sheriff's Office has confirmed to several news organizations that the deceased man was in fact Benjamin.

Officials said no foul play is believed to have been involved in the incident, and preliminary results indicate that Benjamin killed himself.
