Free health care event to bring 100 U.S. military personnel to Cortland

Between July 15–24, 2016, more than 100 service members—including active guard and reservists from the Army, Navy and Air National Guard—will be coming to provide basic healthcare to our community.

Patients will be offered services in medical, dental, optometry and veterinary care at no cost. (Services will be available between 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM at the Homer Intermediate/Junior High School, 58 Clinton Street, Homer, NY 13077.

What is Healthy Cortland?

Healthy Cortland is a No-Cost Medical Event at which medical services are provided by Department of Defense (DoD) Medical Professionals.  Also known as an “Innovative Readiness Training”, IRT is a DoD deployment exercise to provide real world training opportunities for our service members while supporting the needs of America’s underserved communities.

Services Provided Include:

  • Dental: Examinations, Cleanings, Fillings, and Simple Extractions.

  • Medical: Diabetes Screening, Blood Pressure, Fall Risk Assessments, Depression Screening, Lifestyle and Nutrition Counseling, and More.

  • Optometry: Vision Examinations, Testing for Cataracts, Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration, and Single-Focal (Distance or Reading) Prescription Glasses (Manufactured On-Site).

  • Veterinary: Spay, Neuter and Rabies Vaccinations for companion animals (dogs & cats). Spay and Neutering is limited to two pets per family.

All services provided at no cost to you.

Pre-scheduled appointments are required for Dental, Optometry and Veterinary care.

2-1-1 is scheduling all dental and optometry appointments beginning June 1st, 2016, between the hours of 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

SPCA of Cortland County - (607) 344-0014

The SPCA is scheduling all veterinary appointments beginning June 1st, 2016, Tuesdays-Fridays 1:00 PM-6:00 PM and Saturdays 12:00 PM-4:00 PM.

How can you help?

Approximately 500 volunteers will be needed during the 10-day event. Approximately 5,000 - 7,000 medical services will be provided to more than 2,000 people.
