To initiate public dialogue on improving Cortland County government, the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Cortland County has organized a forum to consider the position of County Administrator and whether it is time to hire again.

On Thursday evening, 7 p.m., July 14, two experts will discuss the role of County Administrator in the second floor auditorium at the Cortland County Office Building. SUNY Cortland’s Dr. Mary McGuire will discuss theory and research regarding the position, and Joe Mareane will discuss his experience as Tompkins County’s Administrator. The panelists will then respond to questions from the audience.

Background: The Cortland LWV studied models of county government leadership in the 1980s and 90s. In 2002, County voters approved a law creating the County Administrator position. However, the job has been vacant since 2014. A year ago, League members prioritized the County Administrator as a topic for 2015-2016 programming. A LWV-sponsored committee has been studying the subject and planned the July 14 educational forum.

This forum is part of a series of Making Democracy Work® events sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Cortland County.
