ITHACA, N.Y. – A woman currently serving a jail sentence for a previous charge appeared in court Tuesday afternoon for another series of charges that were also reduced in a plea deal.
Sheila Shattuck pleaded guilty to misdemeanors for second-degree false instrument for filing and third-degree forgery. Each charge carries a maximum sentence of one year.
Assistant District Attorney Dan Johnson said he will be recommending a jail term during her sentencing on Sept. 6.
Before the plea deal, she was charged with a total of six counts that included additional forgery accusations, among other similar charges.
Shattuck previously pleaded guilty to misdemeanor petit larceny, a drastic reduction from her original charges of third-degree grand larceny and 16 counts of first-degree falsifying business records.
During her previous sentencing appearance where she was given eight months in jail, Johnson said, "It's disappointing, frankly, that we're here on the misdemeanor charge." He noted Shattuck has a history of "theft and deceit," lied to her employers at Fall Creek Dentistry and lied to the court on multiple occasions.
She's committed at least six other offenses since 1990, all involving stealing or violating probation, the court previously said.
Shattuck is being released from jail on the first charge Aug. 2.
